The quality of water you use in dyeing will greatly affect the outcome.  We collect rain water in several locations on our farm for various uses.  Because it is naturally soft this is a great resource for standardizing a baseline when it comes to dyeing.  Other water sources may then be used and compared with its outcome.  It is good to know the pH level of the water you use because your water’s acidity or alkalinity acts like a litmus test when coupled with the pH of the dye you use.
