Make sure that you plan in advance to have enough space for every step of the dyeing process. I work extensively outdoors during spring, summer, and fall. However, the winters in central Canada force me to work indoors. A large, stable area is required for every stage except mordanting during this time. Mordanting and any other process that requires ventilation is always done outside. Store dyeing equipment, chemicals, and dyes in a separate area, secure from accidents, pets, and children.
